Academics Overview
Holy Rosary Catholic School prides itself on offering a rich educational program that is personal and relevant to each and every student. Our students are challenged with high academic standards in a well-rounded curriculum full of enrichment opportunities. It’s our goal to help children develop academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
In accordance with the Catholic Schools Department of the Diocese of Sacramento, Holy Rosary uses the State of California’s common core standards in reading and math. We administer quarterly STAR assessments on these subjects in grades kindergarten through eighth to help shape curriculum review and development.
We are committed to maintaining the highest educational standards, preparing our students to be responsible citizens and to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Our strengths include a focus on language arts, reading, spelling, mathematics, religion, writing and science with an emphasis on developing critical thinking skills.
In further developing a more diverse student, school wide enrichment activities include art, music physical education, student council and sports programs organized by the Parochial Athletic League. Educational field trips provide the students with additional learning experiences beyond the confines of the classroom, which are used to enhance the subjects during the school year.
The curriculum for K-8 includes the following subject areas:
- Religion
- Language Arts (English, reading, literature, spelling/vocabulary and handwriting)
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
- Art
- Music
- Student Council
Religion
Most important, as a Catholic school, religious education forms a meaningful part of the curriculum and is taught in keeping with the established diocesan guidelines. Our students learn the teachings of the Catholic faith and are encouraged to make prayer an integral part of their daily lives. Setting an example for our students, teachers focus on maintaining a positive atmosphere in which Catholic values and principles prevail.
Education in Virtue
Holy Rosary School teaches the Disciple of Christ, Education in Virtue program. Education in Virtue guides students in living Christian virtue. The practical resources provide an intuitive means to learn about the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit to enable students to discover that happiness is living virtuously as a disciple of Christ. Community Service
Involvement in service projects encourages responsibility, self-discipline, cooperation, leadership, and self-esteem.
Technology
Our highly qualified staff plan instruction across the grade levels and integrate technology with a 1:1 Chromebook program in grades 1 through 8 that contributes to our school’s strength. Holy Rosary has a school-wide robust fiber-optic wireless network. Each classroom is equipped with a projection system, document cameras, and other appropriate technology.
STEM Education
Holy Rosary students excel with strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics skills. Our students participate in hands-on activities, projects and problems that are reflective of real-world challenges. Holy Rosary is a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) school, which means we have access to STEM curriculum that inspires students to question what’s possible and prepare them for long-term success. This real-world approach empowers students and makes for invaluable connections between what students learn in class today and the paths they’ll take in the future. We partner with UC Davis ESTEME, Femineers, Woodland HS Ag Sciences, ENCORPS and more!
